American painter Heather Dawn Batchelor refers to herself as a contemporary expressionist. Her abstract canvases primarily use bold colors and gestures to illustrate her memories and experiences.
Heather art is a struggle to glimpse the spiritual from the physical, the glorious from the mundane. Her art reflects the tension between the day-to-day responsibilities, chores, and distractions of life and the moments of divine intervention that allow glimpses into another realm. She focuses on what is unseen, recognizing that what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
Heather was born in Indianapolis and grew up in Indy until her parents moved the family to a horse farm in Boone County, Indiana. Heather grew up with art and music a big part of her life; her grandmother was a painter and her father a photographer. After high school, she lived and studied in many different places including NYC, LA, China and The Herron School of Art before finally settling back in her home state of Indiana and raising her children. She and her husband now reside in Ocala, Fl.
