Debra McCord

Debra McCord has always been an artist. Her earliest memory is tracing the shadows and light on the wall with her finger. To her every rock was interesting, every pile of twigs needed to be turned into sculpture, and like many creative kids before her, she started with her 96 jumbo box of Crayola crayons and never looked back. In high school she was called "Art Girl" and eventually found her way to the School of Visual Arts in New York City.  It was here that she finally met her people, her tribe. There were others like her from all over that world and for four years she finally felt at home. Sadly, one cannot spend their life in Art School so she moved on to a career in Manhattan working as a Graphic Designer in the fashion and music industries at Liz Claiborne, Chaus, and Arista Records.

Fast forward to today where Debra has been an Art Teacher as well as a First Grade Teacher for the past twelve years. Although kids in 2024 are growing up in a very different world than the one she did, she loves sharing her creative world with them and guiding them on their own artistic journey.
