I woke up at 3:00am from a dream and I had this image stuck in my head.
I've tried to go back to sleep but couldn't because I kept coming up with ideas for this illustration, so I got up and started to work on it.
I titled it 0019-2000, since the song by The Gorillaz "19-2000 Soulchild Remix" is one of my favorites and fits the illustration well, with its' wackiness and high spirits.
I also wanted to add a Kintsugi effect to Mount Fuji. Kintsugi is the Japanese art of putting broken pottery pieces back together with gold — a metaphor for embracing your flaws and imperfections. “You won't realize your full potential until you go through the tough times,” Kumai says. With that said, Kintsugi takes work and awareness in order for it to truly be healing.
I've also chosen the little cat ornament (it makes noise when moved). I picked the color red so it stands out from the whole image. Also the color red is associated strongly with authority, strength, sacrifice, joy, and happiness. It is regarded as an auspicious color in Japan, especially when paired with white (also used on the national flag).
