Tasha Strigle

Tasha Strigle is a mixed media artist who produces two-dimensional and relief artworks. When creating artwork, she integrates a variety of textures and builds up layers of visual interest. She also loves experimenting with materials and finding interesting ways to create contrast. Her work derives from her personal experiences, beliefs, and curiosity about nature.

Tasha studied art in college with concentrations in photography and textiles. After college, she became an art teacher. In 2020 she started making and sharing her personal artworks in earnest to cope with the stress of the Covid 19 Pandemic. That year was a turning point for her to take artmaking more seriously and to take time to make things that were not related to her job. As the community emerged back to public events, she started entering local art shows and attending more art events.

Statement

Resourcefulness and utilizing non-traditional items creatively have been characteristics of my art process since I was a child. I find a thrill in the challenge of transforming something that might be considered “trash” into something useful or interesting to look at. I incorporate found items with other media; layering, collaging and assembling them to create two- and three-dimensional artworks.

As a result of the pandemic was I started shopping online more frequently, causing cardboard to become readily available. I wanted to find a way to reclaim this material for art instead of wasting it. My first cardboard project was a frame for an artwork that needed a non-traditional frame. From there I started looking at boxes differently and thinking of various ways to combine them with other “discarded” materials such as plastic mesh, water bottles, and plastic bubble mailers.
